After teasing the EVO 2018 crowd with a Super Smash Bros Ultimate direct a few days later, Nintendo made good on its promise and delivered a ton of new details and information in a short time period. The Nintendo Direct showed off a staggering amount of content from new fighters and gameplay, to some really impressive details and features. For many longtime fans, Nintendo left one big surprise for the very end of the show.
Before ending the Super Smash Bros Ultimate stream, Nintendo showed a brand new trailer with Donkey and Diddy Kong getting attacked by none other than their longtime rival King K. Rool. Along with the reveal came the news that the Kremling King is officially joining the roster as a playable fighter. This highly requested fighter has an impressive set of moves including his blunderbuss, a helicopter lift, a boomerang crown, and the ability to parry an attack with his stomach.

Official details were not provided during this segment but for his Final Smash, he sits on his throne inside of a King K. Rool inspired Tower as it fires a giant laser at any enemies unfortunate enough to be caught in its beam. The trailer ends with K. Rool stomping both Donkey and Diddy Kong into the ground, hinting that he’ll have a stun move as well.
It’s clear that Nintendo aims to live up to the Ultimate description in the title. Not only is every single character from the entire series back and represented, many highly requested characters like Ridley and King K. Rool have finally made the cut as well. The Direct also revealed a Castlevania crossover which brings Simon Belmont and Ritcher Belmont to the playable roster while adding the dynamic and creepy Dracula’s Castle stage as well as adding Alucard as an assist trophy.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches December 7 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
