The 3DS is an impressive piece of hardware but, without great games to move the system, a lot of fans seem willing to sit on the sidelines until the must-have software comes out.
Why deal with that problem again for Nintendo’s upcoming home console? Why not launch it with great games on day one? With that in mind, check out our top 5 list of games we’d like to see launch with Nintendo’s next console.
(5) Call of Duty
Like the game or not, Activision’s Call of Duty franchise is big, really big. Infinity Ward helped launch the Xbox 360 with Call of Duty 2 and Modern Warfare just made the franchise that much bigger. Sure the Wii had its share of Call of Duty games and credit should be given to the developers for their hard work on those ports. Getting a game like Call of Duty to run and play smoothly on the Wii is no small task.
But the Wii ports never held a candle to the Xbox 360 and Ps3 versions. Unless gamers only owned a Wii, it was never the system of choice for Call of Duty action.
But if the rumors about the graphical power in Nintendo’s next console are true and it packs-in some form of traditional controller, Nintendo no longer has to sit on the FPS sidelines – not to mention the Wii 2 might drop its antiquated Friend Code online system. If Nintendo’s console is able to provide a great online environment, solid control option (the classic controller pro is a great controller after all), and provide better graphics than what is available on the Xbox 360 or PS3, Nintendo’s next console could move away from the family reputation and into hardcore gamers’ hearts.
Sure, Call of Duty might not be the most original or exciting game franchise on the planet but if Nintendo is able to launch its next console with a big Call of Duty game, that could go a long way in setting the tone of the console as well as help Nintendo reach-out to third-party publishers.
